Can anyone help me find information about this rumor I heard about the last episode of season four? I heard that The Doctor was going to reset time, negating the time war. I heard that this would bring all of the Time Lords back to life and restore the Daleks. I also heard that in an added twist all of his companions throughout time would lose their knowledge of The Doctor and no longer be able to remember him.

Has anyone else heard anything like this? If yes, can you point me to the original source or to anymore information about this?

I find this rumor almost impossible to believe. I just can't fathom how this would affect the show's future. It basically undoes the entirety of the new series. The new series is so obsessed with the notion of The Doctor as a "lonely god", I don't know how it could carry on if The Doctor isn't so lonely and there are tons of people around who never mistake him for anything divine. Also, if the companions can't remember him it's pretty much like nothing in the entire classic series happened either. I can only imagine this idea working if it is the last episode of Doctor Who ever shown.

Anything anyone could tell me would be appreciated.

This is just speculation. I'm addicted to the Spoiler and Set Report threads over at DWF, and there hasn't been anything about that over there. It's speculation based on some dialogue that was overheard at the filming of a scene where the Doctor is dropping of Donna at her house. Basically, it just sounds like Donna's memory is wiped. But yeah...

Also, I hope RTD doesn't bring back the TimeLords. They were a bunch of asses. I know that the Doctor misses them now, but he wasn't exactly their hugest fan when they were alive.

thanks for the information about Donna. it's great to know what might have started the rumor.

i know exactly what you're saying. there is such a huge disconnect between how The Doctor felt about the motherland in the old series and the way The Doctor feels in the new series, it's almost like they are totally different shows.

That really bugs me sometimes as well. It's almost as though he forgot they put him on trial for crimes against the Gallifrey, the Time Lords and TIME ITSELF every chance they had.

How much wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff being screwed up aside, I think the one thing that pretty much nullifies this idea is the fact that there are two Doctor Who spinoffs right now involving former companions. The Doctor is a huge part of who both Jack and Sarah Jane are, and the two series really couldn't exist without their knowledge of him.

yeah, i guess it would be too big of a risk for the BBC. it would be risk alienating the audiences of three shows.

Hi,

There's something similar on this page: http://www.sylvestermccoy.com/newdoctorwho/ although it doesn't go into much detail (and the speculation dramatically increases the further into it you get). It's described as a 'crash and burn' episode.

I don't know about it, it would be a shame to have it happen (as cool as the team would no doubt make it) because it kind of negates all the themes so far.

The stuff on the Sylvester McCoy site's completely made up - they're mixing real spoilers with ridiculous fanwank (The Four Doctors by Terrance Dicks...!)

I heard something similar to this, I think, and something to do with it only affecting Donna? Er, perhaps not.

I want the Timelords back, but this is just not the way to do it, it just feels like a great big cop-out. Also, presumeably, a great big reset would undo the events of SJA aswell, however, there's a second series on the way which would also presumeably be set after series four.

i've done a little more investigating and i'm pretty sure it is just a thing with Donna. thanks.

RTD has talked about how a year off, like the one coming up, is necessary every so often to 'reset the mythos' (or possibly reinvent, I forget the exact quote - it's in this month's SFX) which does imply there could be a big change coming. This stuff about the Doctor reseting everything from the Time War isn't based on anything solid, though, it all seems to have grown from one line someone heard at the filming that might be the last scene and might mean Donna has lost her memories of the Doctor.
bullet4fob on March 26th, 2008 03:07 am (UTC)
well, i hate to argue too much with good old RTD but usually when shows 'reset the mythos' it's almost always a jump the shark moment.

Donna losing her memories makes so much more sense than this theory that i heard.

I have a bit of a silly question.

If the reset button is canon and the Doctor can't resist pressing the big red button (Hey, didn't he do that before?), does EVERYTHING reset or it just the Time War bit?

I wouldn't mind certain things I've been hearing about TW getting "fixed."
bullet4fob on March 26th, 2008 03:11 am (UTC)
the way i heard it, it's a little of both. Time War + Every Companion. that's more than just the Time War and less than EVERYTHING. but i did some reading about this today and i am now convinced that this rumor is false.

i am going to resist asking you about TW because i haven't even seen the second season yet. which is pathetic but i work too much to respond to lj comments in a normal time span so i can't get around to downloading episodes.

if they do this I'm going to fucking commit suicide and take RTD down with me. This is just WAY out of the question. It CANNOT happen because it would affect all the spin-offs, remember? So I think its false speculation .
bullet4fob on April 1st, 2008 01:57 pm (UTC)
have you told this to the BBC? because i am sure if they knew that lives were at stake they would never go through with this story line.
